Saginaw NOT In The Top 50 (It’s A Good Thing!)

In the latest bed bug survey… a few Michigan cities made the most infested list, but the Tri-Cities did not. Hooray! Midland, Saginaw, and Bay City were NOT mentioned on Orkin’s annual 50 Bed Bug Cities list, which is definitely cause for celebration.

Which of our neighbor cities are on the list? Detroit is #8 for most bed bugs, Grand Rapids at #20, Lansing at #32, and Flint is #47, barely squeezing onto the Top 50 list. The city with the largest bed bug population is Baltimore, Maryland followed by Washington D.C. (TONS of infestations jokes there, but I wont!) and Chicago at #3.

To make sure we stay off the list, Orkin recommends inspecting for bed bugs regularly, checking secondhand furniture VERY carefully before you bring it into your home, and using your dryer’s high heat setting to keep fabrics clear from bedbugs.

If you’re planning to travel soon, Orkin also has a few solid tips to avoid bed bugs on the road, cleverly put into their S.L.E.E.P. acronym:

  • S – Survey hotel room for tiny ink-colored stains on mattress seams, in soft furniture, and behind headboards
  • L – Lift mattresses and box springs to make sure no critters are hanging out under the bed (Monsters under the bed are REAL!)
  • E – Elevate luggage. Put your goodies up high on dressers or bathroom counters
  • E – Examine your luggage carefully when you’re repacking and once you return home
  • P – (The homestretch) Place dryer-safe clothing in dryer at hottest setting for at least 15 minutes

All that said, well done Tri-cities! Let’s stay off the bed bug list! See the full list of cities and other bed bug fighting tips at
