Ellie Goulding is an English songwriter and singer; she was born on 30th December 1986, to Tracey and Arthur Goulding in Hereford, Herefordshire, England. She grew up in Lyonshall, a small town, and she has three siblings: two sisters, Jordan and Isabel, and Alex, a brother.

Goulding made her breakthrough in 2010 when she debuted Lights. Soon, her popularity soared, and she released more singles, such as Halcyon (2012) and Delirium (2015).

    Juice WRLD

Juice WRLD was an American rapper born in Chicago, Illinois, on 2nd December 1998. He was also an actor and music artist. Some of the songs he is known for are Lucid Dreams, Lean Wit Me. He burst onto the scene in 2018 when he released Goodbye and Good Riddance.

    History of Hate Me

In the Hate Me song, the singers explore sentiments between their former lovers and themselves. However, these situations are more complex than the title suggests. For example, you can argue in both cases that the artists, to a certain degree, are concerned about their ex-lovers and vice versa.

In Ellie Goulding’s case, she is making fun of her ex-lover for still having feelings for her. She even states in the song that he misses her so much that he has gone mad. The song’s title comes into play with the singer mocking her ex-lover for acting as if he hates her, but in reality, he doesn’t. However, Ellie wishes her ex-lover never dated her in the first place.

Meanwhile, Juice WRLD has a different approach to the issue. He admits his flaws and says that he isn’t the best lover. He insinuates that he is a drug addict, which affects how his ex-lover perceives him.

However, through a lack of affection and love, his ex-lover is influencing him to adopt bad habits such as taking drugs.

Juice WRLD presents his ex-lover as someone who likes playing mind games and expresses hatred for him, but the two communicate frequently.

    Critical Response to Hate Me

Billboard’s Carl Lamarre calls the song an anti-love anthem and states that the dark approach from Ellie Goulding is because her relationship with her lover spiraled. Idolator Mark felt the track was a hip-hop-flavored banger. Paper’s Jael Goldfine stated that the track is a tongue-in-cheek, masochistic, and moody collaboration.

Goldfine also stated that Goulding dares her ex-lover to say all the ugly and mean things broken-hearted individuals say to each other.

    Fans’ Response to Hate Me

Fans have a mixed reaction to the Hate Me song. Let’s start with the good news; most fans believe Hate is a well-produced and contemporary-sounding hip-hop and pop hybrid. However, some fans have complained that the song is pretty generic, the track as a whole is quite monotonous, and the chorus is repetitive.

Goulding has taken notes of the criticism from the fans and, on Instagram, has tried to shut down her critics. She also stated that she wants to produce a song for her pleasure and can produce no new tracks for her fans. To sum up the criticism, most fans have been disappointed by the song because they believe Goulding is better than this.
